La Rosiere

Over the last 15 years La Rosiere has been a rising star amongst ski resorts. With investment it has become a wonderful place to stay and very popular for families. With the ski area straddling the Italian border there is a relaxed feel to the town. With plenty of great chalets, apartments and hotels there are lots of options. Good eateries and a few lively bars mean there is fun in the village without attracting what some may refer to as the ‘rowdier set’. Highlights include skiing down towards La Thuile on the Italian side for a great value, hearty Italian lunch. Recommended.

The Ski Area

A perfect spot for beginners and intermediates with its flowing runs and good snow record. Most skiers will be well entertained here and those looking for adventure will find plenty of steeper black runs along with some exciting off piste and even the option of heliskiing from La Thuile. The greater area is called the San Bernardo ski area and covers 160km including La Thuile in Italy. Skiing in and out of Italian and French culture is a lot of fun and provides for plenty of good lunches.

Transfer Times

La Rosiere can be reached from Geneva, Lyon, Grenoble and Chambery airports. If you are travelling on a Saturday, particularly at high season, then be prepared for traffic. The main road into the region supports access to many ski resorts so whilst La Rosiere maybe the final destination the combined volume of traffic from all the resorts can be very significant. The local authorities monitor the motorway at Moutiers and use traffic lights to ‘pulse’ the traffic as it leaves the motorway to enter the Tarentaise valley so expect some delays here at the weekends. For your departure we would recommend leaving resort as early as possible. Transferring through Bourg St Maurice before the majority of holidaymakers is advisable, even if you end up with a little extra time at the airport.
